A small business jet taxis alone across a vast, dark apron beneath a single mast light. Most of the frame is empty concrete and night sky, which gives this cool, near-monochrome image its meditative calm.

The photograph
Lone taxi
Scale is the subject of this photograph. A small T-tailed business jet, landing lights on, crosses the far side of an enormous dark apron, while a single floodlight mast stands to the left like a lighthouse. The aircraft occupies only a small part of the frame; the rest is the soft texture of concrete and an unbroken black sky.
The cool grey palette and wide negative space give the image a meditative quality. A service vehicle waits by the mast and a low building sits on the horizon, but nothing distracts from the jet's slow progress across the frame.
The image also shows how an airport looks when it is almost asleep: no queues, no movement except a single aircraft and its lights. Those quiet hours are when the apron is at its most photogenic, and this frame captures that stillness clearly.
Minimal and understated, it is a print for calm rooms, and one that rewards the larger sizes, where the emptiness around the aircraft becomes part of the experience.
