The photograph
Heritage in the blue hour
Side-on profiles are the classic aviation portrait, and this one is about as clean as they come. The Transavia Airbus A321neo PH-YHD, wearing the airline's green-and-white "Transavia Holland" retro scheme, stretches almost the full width of the frame. The deep blue of the night sky above and the smooth grey apron below leave nothing to compete with the livery.
Look closely and the details are all there: "Airbus A321neo" printed on the engine nacelle, the registration on the rear fuselage, the green T standing out from the tail and, far in the background, the tails of other aircraft lit at their stands. A warm glow from a ground vehicle spills out from behind the wing.
The retro scheme on this modern A321neo is a reminder of how airline identity carries across generations of aircraft. Photographing it side-on at night, with the apron almost empty, gives the livery the clean, uncluttered presentation it deserves.
Its long horizontal shape suits a sideboard, bench or bed wall. The 40 × 60 cm and 60 × 90 cm sizes do the fuselage justice.
Photographed on 26 July 2025 with a Sony α7R V at a focal length of 111 mm.
