The photograph
North meets south
This photograph places a very northern airline in a very southern landscape. The SAS Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A320neo, registration LN-RGM, rolls along the runway in the lower third of the frame, its blue tail and red engine nacelle bright against the dry ochre ground.
Above it the landscape rises in bands: scrub and old ruined cottages covered in graffiti, a channel of water, green marsh, a sandbar with small boats and the sea meeting a hazy sky. Compressed by a long lens, the layers stack up like a painted backdrop.
The ruins are old cottages standing in the scrub beyond the runway, now decorated with graffiti and slowly being reclaimed by vegetation. They give the photograph an unexpected human history, a reminder that the landscape around the runway existed long before the aircraft.
A print with a story in it, ideal for travellers, for anyone with Scandinavian connections, and for rooms that suit sandy, natural colours.
Photographed on 16 August 2025 with a Sony α7R IIIA at a focal length of 318 mm.
