The photograph
Silver and shadow
Converted to black and white, this close view of an SAS Scandinavian Airlines Airbus becomes a study in form. The aircraft turns towards the camera on the taxiway, its rounded nose and cockpit windows bright against the dark asphalt, while the engine's fan blades spiral around the centre spinner in the lower left.
The monochrome treatment removes the livery's colours but keeps its typography and logo as subtle grey shapes along the fuselage. Strong side light creates deep shadows under the wing and highlights the smooth curves of the nose, the kind of tonal range that rewards a large print.
This black-and-white version was produced by the photographer from the original colour capture. The conversion emphasises contrast and texture, particularly in the fan blades and the subtle shading across the nose.
A timeless choice for monochrome interiors and gallery walls. Two crew members are faintly visible in the cockpit.
