The photograph
The four-engined profile
Four-engined airliners are becoming rare, which makes a close encounter like this one special. The Edelweiss Airbus A340 fills the frame from edge to edge: the airline's name in huge navy letters, the red nose cone, the long swept wing and two of its four engines hanging beneath, with the multi-wheel main gear rolling along the runway.
Hard sunlight and a long lens give the picture punch and depth. A terminal roof and distant hills close off the background, and the dry grass and runway edge form neat horizontal bands below.
The A340's four-engined layout makes it instantly recognisable, and the long lens compresses the wing and engines so that the aircraft feels huge in the frame. The bold lettering fills most of the fuselage, giving the print its graphic strength.
A strong, colourful print for enthusiasts of long-haul flying and anyone with happy memories of a trip on board.
Photographed on 1 June 2026 with a Sony α7R V at a focal length of 600 mm.
