The photograph
Before pushback
This photograph captures the minutes before a departure, seen through the open flight-deck door. A pilot, seen only from behind, sits at the controls, hands moving over the instruments, while the overhead panel and its rows of switches fill the top of the frame.
The doorway and galley walls frame the scene on either side, and the black-and-white conversion turns the bright windscreen into a soft glow that silhouettes the seat. It is a quiet, observational image, made at Munich Airport, about concentration and routine.
A thoughtful print for pilots, crew and anyone who has wondered what happens behind that door. Offered in A4 and A3+, the sizes the original phone capture supports in full detail.
Photographed on 20 July 2026 with a Xiaomi 17 Ultra (phone).
