The photograph
A speck against the sun
This is the smallest aircraft in the collection and one of the largest skies. Photographed with a long lens at the end of a summer day, a distant airliner appears as a tiny silhouette just beneath the disc of the setting sun, which hangs pale and enormous in a sky of amber haze.
Thin bands of cloud cross the upper part of the sun, and the colour deepens from honey gold at the top of the frame to near-black at the bottom. The atmosphere softens everything, giving the image the quality of a painting rather than a technical record.
A meditative, minimal print for calm rooms. Offered in A4 and A3+, sizes that suit its soft, atmospheric character; the photographer's signature appears at the bottom of the image.
