The photograph
Green tail, red beacon
Seen from behind and slightly to one side, this Airbus A321neo in Transavia's "Transavia Holland" retro livery fills the frame. The vivid green tail with its bold black T rises into the night, the green cheatline runs the length of the cabin, and a red anti-collision beacon washes the concrete beneath the belly in red.
The low viewpoint makes the aircraft feel monumental. The engines glow with reflected light, the main gear stands planted on the apron and distant mast lights form a soft halo around the scene. It is a portrait of a single aircraft at rest, but with the tension of a machine that could start moving at any moment.
Night photography of a parked airliner is a slow process: waiting for vehicles to pass, for the beacon to pulse at the right moment and for the apron to fall quiet. This frame is the reward for that patience, with the beacon's red glow caught at its brightest.
The strong green and red against near-black make this a confident print for modern spaces. It pairs naturally with "Heritage in the blue hour", which shows the same aircraft in profile.
Photographed on 26 July 2025 with a Sony α7R V at a focal length of 150 mm.
